Variation and inheritance

Variation is how different organisms within a species are different and how one species is different from another. Variation is controlled in part by the genes or instruction manual that the cells of an organism contain. These are found in the DNA. DNA is found in the nucleus of a cell.

For those of you that are curious DNA is short for deoxyribonucleic acid.

Variation and genetics have been studied throughout the centuries with farmers breeding two livestock with useful qualities.

Gregor Mendel was a monk who was possibly the first person to do scientific research into genetics.  He used pea plants. The next few videos hopefully will give an insight into variation and how it is portrayed.

Genes are passed from parents to offspring and are a cause of inherited variation

You should know the difference between continuous and discontinuous variation and can give examples
